It took Johnnie Cochran et al. Only 13 months to realize that gender issues matter in the O.J. Simpson trial. So the Dream Teamers recently added Cristina Arguedas of Cooper, Arguedas & Cassman in Emeryville. Colleagues speculate she was hired to show the big football star just how easily one 5-foot-2-inch blonde could beat him up in a mock cross-examination-and convince him that testifying was a bad, bad idea. "She's one of the most marvelous cross-examiners you'll ever see," says federal public defender Barry Portman. "If anyone could convince Simpson that he would come in second in a tussle with Marcia Clark, it's probably Cris Arguedas," says Joseph Russionello, former U.S. Attorney for Northern California.
